‘Coral Carpet’ Sedum

Sedum album 'Coral Carpet'

‘Coral Carpet’ is a low-growing, mat-forming succulent prized for its dynamic, year-round foliage color changes. New, bead-like leaves emerge a vibrant coral-pink in spring, transition to a crisp green during summer, and transform into a rich reddish-bronze or crimson-red in the cooler fall and winter months. This evergreen groundcover forms dense, durable mats that tolerate light foot traffic, making it ideal for planting between pavers, in rock gardens, or along borders. In early to mid-summer, tiny, star-shaped white to pale pink flowers bloom above the foliage, attracting butterflies.

Notes

Pruning: Seldom required. Light pruning can be done to maintain shape or control spread.

Fertilizing: Generally not needed in average soil. Can be lightly fertilized in spring if soil is poor.

Maintenance: Very low maintenance and forgiving of neglect; an ideal choice for a low-water garden or green roof application.

Habitat: Excellent for rock gardens, containers, edges, or planting between flagstones where its creeping habit can be utilized.

Other: The species name album means “white” in reference to the flower color. The genus name Sedum comes from the Latin word sedeo, meaning “to sit,” referring to its habit of sprawling over rocks.
