‘Apex Pink’ Salvia

Salvia nemorosa 'Apex Pink'

This compact, well-branched herbaceous perennial features an abundance of dense, bottlebrush-like spikes of rose-pink flowers with burgundy calyces that bloom from late spring through summer and often into fall. The fragrant, grayish-green foliage forms a tidy, shrub-like clump, making it an excellent, low-maintenance choice for sunny borders, mass plantings, or container gardens. It is highly valued for attracting pollinators while resisting deer and rabbits.

Notes

Pruning: Remove spent flower heads (deadhead) to encourage continuous blooming throughout the season and prevent self-seeding. The plant is best cleaned up in early spring before it resumes active growth.

Fertilizing: Feed with an all-purpose fertilizer before new growth begins in spring.

Maintenance: A relatively low maintenance plant that performs well in heat and humidity.

Habitat: Thrives in average, well-drained soils; tolerates clay soils.

Wildlife: The fragrant foliage is generally unappealing to deer and rabbits.

Other: The flowers are excellent for cutting and use in arrangements.
