‘Alleghany’ Viburnum

Viburnum × rhytidophylloides 'Alleghany'

The ‘Alleghany’ Viburnum is a robust, semi-evergreen shrub prized for its dense, rounded form and unique, dark green, leathery foliage that provides year-round screening and structure. The leaves have a distinctly wrinkled (rugose) texture and often persist through mild St. Louis winters, sometimes turning an attractive purple-bronze hue. In mid-to-late spring, the shrub produces large, creamy white, flat-topped flower clusters (cymes) that are followed by clusters of berries that transition from green to pink-red and eventually mature to glossy black in the fall, offering excellent food for birds. This hybrid is a tough, adaptable specimen perfect for use as a hedge or screen.
